Identify the SSD interface and board variant
Read the drive's complete product number and check SATA versus PCIe NVMe. The word M.2 and connector shape are insufficient. The manual describes M2_1 as PCIe Gen4 x4 and M2_2 as SATA or PCIe Gen3 x4, with SATA3_3 disabled by a SATA device in M2_2.
Confirm the D4 suffix. A similarly named DDR5 board's instructions are not a substitute.
Check the affected cable
Shut down and disconnect mains before tracing or moving cables. This board labels SATA ports SATA3_0 through SATA3_3. Guessing that the fourth connector is called SATA4 can cause the wrong change.
If the missing drive uses SATA3_3 and M2_2 holds a SATA M.2 device, move the data cable to a free SATA3_0, SATA3_1 or SATA3_2 port. Retain the power lead and record the old arrangement.
Verify firmware detection first
If the system disk reappears, inspect boot selection before attempting operating-system repair. Do not format an existing drive to solve this hardware allocation conflict.
If M2_2 instead contains PCIe NVMe storage, this specific SATA-only condition is not enough to explain the missing disk. Check power, cables, drive condition and current specifications rather than generalizing from another motherboard's sharing rule.
Plan the next upgrade
Count free compatible connections in the intended arrangement. Moving a SATA M.2 drive to M2_1 is not a valid workaround when that socket supports PCIe storage only.
An adapter or replacement drive needs its own compatibility check. Keep the manual's storage page with the build notes: it captures both the interface distinction and the conditional sharing rule that a simple count of sockets misses.
When seeking help, report the occupied port labels and SSD interface, not just the number of installed disks.
