MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI: M2_2 missing with Ryzen 8500G

Check the CPU-dependent M2_2 restriction on the PRO B650M-A WIFI before replacing an SSD or changing BIOS storage settings.

MSI lists M2_2 as unavailable with Ryzen 8500/8300-series processors on PRO B650M-A WIFI. A drive disappearing after a CPU change can be encountering a platform limit rather than an SSD failure.

Confirm the complete model and CPU

Read PRO B650M-A WIFI on the board and identify the exact processor. Do not substitute the B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI specification: a similar CPU restriction can have a different effect on another board.

Open the official Storage section and its footnotes. The CPU support list answers whether a processor can run; the storage footnote answers which connections remain available with it. Both checks matter.

Separate detection from a Windows issue

If firmware cannot detect a drive in a socket disabled for that CPU, partitioning or another Windows driver will not enable it. If firmware detects the drive but Windows does not, follow that different troubleshooting branch.

Record the SSD model, interface, occupied socket and whether the problem began after a processor change. Do not initialize or format a disk containing data as a detection experiment.

Test an available connection

With power disconnected, follow the manual to install a compatible drive in an available supported socket. M2_1 may be an option if free and compatible with the drive and processor. If it already holds your system disk, plan the test before dismantling that boot arrangement.

A successful test of the same SSD through a supported connection is evidence against blaming the SSD. It does not alter the documented M2_2 limitation.

Plan the final configuration

Count the storage devices you need before purchasing another SSD or a different processor. An available SATA connection or another supported configuration may meet the requirement. M.2 SATA and PCIe NVMe drives are not interchangeable just because their form factors look similar.

If the CPU is outside the restricted series and M2_2 still fails, return to drive-interface compatibility, seating and firmware documentation. Include the exact board, CPU, SSD and BIOS when requesting help.

Avoid random changes to RAID or boot mode: they can affect an existing installation without addressing a CPU-dependent hardware connection.
