MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI: Flash BIOS Button not working

Check MSI.ROM, FAT32, the dedicated USB port and power connections when Flash BIOS will not start on the B550M PRO-VDH WIFI.

On this board, the rear Flash BIOS Button expects an extracted BIOS file named MSI.ROM in the designated Flash BIOS USB port. Copying a ZIP archive to any USB socket is not the same procedure.

Confirm the exact board and method

Read the model printed on the board before downloading anything. B550M PRO-VDH WIFI and B550M PRO-VDH WIFI6 have separate identities. Keep the matching support page and manual open together. This guide concerns the hardware button; M-FLASH inside BIOS is a different workflow.

If the PC works, record its BIOS version and settings first. Make sure you can recover access to an encrypted system before changing firmware. Do not start another update while a flash is already running.

Prepare the USB drive

  1. Back up the USB drive before formatting it. Use FAT32, as specified in MSI's button procedure.
  2. Download the BIOS package for B550M PRO-VDH WIFI and extract it.
  3. Rename the actual BIOS file to MSI.ROM and place it in the top-level directory. Check that hidden extensions have not produced a different filename.
  4. Locate the rear port marked for Flash BIOS in the manual. An ordinary rear USB port is not interchangeable for this operation.

Check power before pressing the button

The model manual specifies CPU_PWR1 and ATX_PWR1 power connections. Check cables with the supply disconnected; use the appropriate CPU power cable, not a graphics-card power lead. Follow the manual's powered standby procedure when ready.

The button method does not require a CPU and memory to be installed. That does not mean an otherwise working system needs to be dismantled.

Read the result and verify it

The indicator flashes during the operation and goes out when it completes. Keep power stable and leave the USB drive connected while flashing. A brief or absent indication alone does not prove that a new BIOS was installed.

If the sequence never starts, recheck the model, extraction, filename, format and dedicated port before trying another USB drive. After successful completion, enter BIOS and compare its displayed version with the downloaded release.

If the documented sequence repeatedly fails, give MSI the exact package name, USB details and LED behaviour. Do not try firmware intended for a similar board.
