MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI: front headphone jack not working

Compare rear and front audio, check JAUD1 and the case HD AUDIO lead, and use the correct audio driver on B550M PRO-VDH WIFI.

The case's headphone socket depends on its connection to JAUD1 as well as the selected audio output. Compare rear and front audio before assuming the driver is responsible.

Establish which output fails

Try the same known-working headphones or speakers with an appropriate rear output and then the front socket. Check volume and the operating system's playback device: HDMI or DisplayPort audio can be selected while headphones are plugged into an analogue jack.

Record whether the fault affects front, rear or both. Silence, crackling, intermittent contact and a missing microphone input are different observations.

Inspect the case cable and JAUD1

Shut down and disconnect mains before touching internal connectors. Use the manual or map to locate JAUD1 and identify the case's HD AUDIO lead.

Follow the keyed orientation. Do not force the plug onto a nearby USB or lighting header. Check that it is fully seated and the cable has not been pinched or pulled loose.

A headset's combined microphone/headphone plug may also need the appropriate arrangement for separate case sockets. A plug mismatch is different from a motherboard driver fault.

Check software after the connection

Use the B550M PRO-VDH WIFI support page for its audio package and your operating system. Follow the installer instructions, then recheck playback-device selection.

If the package includes a Realtek control application, its connector options can vary with the installed software. Do not assume another board's screenshots match exactly.

If rear audio works but the front remains noisy or intermittent, investigate the case's socket, module and cable. Reinstalling drivers repeatedly tells little about a damaged physical connection.

Confirm the result

Retest the same audio source and headphones after changing one thing at a time. Try another known-working device to distinguish a headset fault from the PC's output path.

For support, provide the board, driver package, output used and results from both front and rear. A front-only fault narrows the connection path; faults on both sides need a broader investigation.

Keep the JAUD1 reference with the build notes for future case maintenance.
